Status Effects are a type of game mechanic in Starbound. They can alter the behavior of the player's character (Levitation, Speed Boost, Slowness), affect them in a passive way (Health Boost, Energy Boost), affect their surrounding (Thorns, Lighning), or provide healing/damaging effects (Regeneration, Poison, Burning).
All status effects display an icon near the player's HUD, to indicate which status effects are active.
Positive Status Effects (Buffs) Edit
Health Regeneration causes the player to slowly regenerate health over time. The duration and amount healed depend on how the effect was obtained. Bandages, Medkits many Food Items, Large Canisters, and Red Stimpacks can all provide the Regeneration effect.
Health Boost slightly increases player's pool of health points for a short period of time. Player can get this effect by eating some of the food.
Energy regeneration effect slowly regenerates player's pool of energy points by a number depending on a source of the effect during a set period of time. Some food such as Soda apply that status effect.
Energy Boost increases the maximum number of energy that player has for a short period of time (time period and energy number differ depending on the source of the effect). Player can be provided with Energy Boost effect upon eating some of dishes.
Jump Boost causes the player to be able to jump higher (height differs depending on the source of the effect) for a short period of time. This effect can be obtained by using a Blue Stimpack,Large Canisters or some dishes.
Bounce gives the same effect as Bouncy tech upgrade, making the player bounce off any surface, both vertically and horizontally. Player is immune to the falling damage while under the bounce effect. The source of this effect are Large Canisters and some food such as Bloody Puss.
Light effect reduces the falling speed, greatly increases the jump height and reduces the falling damage.
Glowing causes the player to emanate a moderately bright light for a short period of time. Glowing can be applied by using Yellow Stimpacks or by using Large Canisters randomly found on planets. Some items such as the Lantern Stick or Biolumin Set parts provide a permanent glowing effect as long as player wears them on active armor slot.
The player hovers about 3 blocks above the ground and is immune to fall damage, but is unable to jump (and mine effectively) for the duration of the effect. The only source of this effect for now are Large Canisters.
Rage greatly increases the damage that player can deal to the opponent. Some dishes such as Spooky Donut or Fish in a Bone and boneboo as well as Large Canisters can provide the player with this effect.
Negative Status Effects (Debuffs) Edit
Well Fed is a status applied to the player upon eating any food, that while lasting prevents the player from eating food. Duration of this effect differs depending on the eaten dish. Health will be restored overtime with this effect.
Burning creatures take 3 damage per second, for the duration of four seconds. Weapons with a flame symbol on their tooltip will apply this effect. Damage inflicted by burning is displayed as orange numbers, rather than the normal red damage numbers. Large Canisters can give this effect.
Poison is a slow, cumulative damage over time effect; the more hits/duration a creature or player receives, the more damage poison will deal. Poison deals damage every two seconds, but lasts three times as long as Burning. Weapons with a Skull symbol on their tooltip will apply this effect, and falling in poison water will also inflict poison; the poison will be more severe if the player is in the poison water for a long time. Any damage poison inflicts is displayed as green numbers. Large Canisters can give this effect.
Slowness decreases target's movement speed. Some weapons can apply slowness upon hitting the target.
